About

Welcome to A Place At My Table, inspiration to make life inviting, even on a crappy day.

I’m Laura Calder, author of The Inviting Life: An Inspirational Guide to Homemaking, Hosting and Opening the Door to Happiness and Kitchen Bliss: Musings on Food and Happiness (with recipes). I’ve also written four cookbooks and for years hosted the internationally aired, James Beard Award-winning television series, French Food at Home. Thanks to all that, the French government gave me a knighthood: a chevalier de l’ordre du mérite agricole.

But, this publication is not just about cooking and hosting, although you will find recipes and entertaining tips here sometimes. My driving passion is for what you might call “the fine art of everyday life,” or what the French call l’art de vivre, and everywhere I find clues to this mastery, I’ll be sharing them with you, along with personal stories, musings, and adventures. Every letter, I trust, will feel like missive from a friend and make your day.

Sign up for inspiration to make life inviting, even on a crappy day!

A free subscription guarantees you a personal letter from me on the first every month, and occasional other posts.

A paid subscription gets you all recipes (with downloadable PDFs), all posts, podcasts, and videos (including Peter and Laura videos), along with access to archives, comments sections, discussion panels, chats, Q&As, special events, and whatever else I can figure out how to get up to on here. Doesn’t that sound way more fun than a free subscription?

Make my life more inviting!

P.S.

Let me introduce my husband, Peter, because he joins me on here for the “Table Topics” videos once a month. We answer your questions and share ideas that come to us, not just about the table but about life in general. If you have questions, comments, or ideas to share, do drop us a line any time.
